Roland Lee Skipper was born on August 15, 1930 and retired to his heavenly home on December 22, 2017.
A fifth generation Floridian, Roland came from a long line of cattlemen. Born in Crewsville, Florida to Dink and Velva Skipper, he was the youngest of five boys with one sister.
Roland was a longtime member of Crewsville Bethel Baptist Church, where he also served as a Deacon. In addition to serving his church, he was a former Hardee County Commissioner and member of the Cattlemen’s Association. In his younger years Roland enjoyed competing in the calf roping and steer wrestling as well working as a pickup man in the rough stock events. Roland is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carolyn Polk Skipper; children, Jo Ann S. Green (Noel), Margaret S. Dunaway (Mark), and James Stephen Skipper (Ninfa); grandchildren, Summer Ann Dunaway, Shannan D. Schuessler (Pierce), Calli S. Ward (Kevin), and Jocelyn S. Hamilton (Justin); great-grandchildren, Jameson Ward and Sawyer Ward; and multiple nieces and nephews.
