John Mullis started in radio at the age of 10 when he was selected to be a DJ for an hour at radio station WBAR in Bartow,Florida. The show was for teens only and owner Jean Ladd wanted to encourage them to consider broadcasting for their future.

It must have worked because now, he’s president of Hardee Broadcasting, LLC, the owner of WAUC 1310. The radio station has never went off air since 1958.

In the first year of ownership, he revamped the website to create a central location for Hardee County to go to for community news, up coming events, high school sports schedules and results and so much more.

“We are just getting started, John said “I’m excited to keep rolling out new ways that WAUC can better serve the community he said “The FCC filing window for WAUC has been set for the end of January 2018 Guest Technology the engineering firm handling the filing for Hardee Broadcasting has the proper paper work ready to be submitting”

John also understands the region’s love for auto bracing and so one of the first steps he took in programming was to begin carrying all the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup races on Sunday afternoon. He requested Bryan Pease host a one hour talk show with co host Quinton Blundell on Saturday mornings about the Florida area short tracks. There are more plans in the works for additional live broadcasts of important racing events in Florida broadcast not only in Hardee County but also around the world via the internet.

Racing is a love for John as he has been a track official for over 26 years. He is widely considered as one of the best flagman in the business at any level – local, regional or national series.
